Emigrants from Wuerttemberg

Die Höroldts sind nicht die einzigen Steinheimer, die Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts nach Pennsylvania ausgewandert sind. In der Liste von Dr. Adolf Gerber wird auch die Familie Caspar Baerle, die Brüder Samuel und Johann Melchior Joos, sowie der Lehrer Hans Philipp Adam Paff mit seiner Ehefrau Sophia Catharina und der Tochter Friderica Magdalena genannt, die bei der Auswanderung 1752 sieben Jahre alt war.

BAERLE , CASPAR (1)—Steinheim an der Murr (1750) Glazier [Glaser]. Wf : SARA. Ch : (1) Justina Magdalena, b. 11-13- 1730; (2) Johann Caspar, b. 7-28-1734; (3) Sophia Catharina, b. 9-3- 1742. All three children "went to America, May 28, 1750, with their parents." / / Staatsbote, Philadelphia, December 5, 1775, quoted in Hocker, 158: "JACOB GEIGER, living with Nicolaus Weber, Third street, Philadelphia, seeks information of JOHAN N CASPAR BERLEN , who came to America in 1750 from Steinheim an der Murr and left his three children in New York—Justinia Magdalena, who married Seckler Falkenhan; Sophia Catharina, who married Dreher Wohlhaupt, and a son, Johann Caspar, a shoemaker. The father's sister, Eva Agnes Durstin, died in 1774."

According to the researches of Dr. Charles A . Fisher of Selmsgrove, Pa., historian of the Herrold Family (see THE SNYDER COUNTY PIONEERS, [Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, 1938] pp. 39-4°), GEORGE CHRISTOPHER HERROLD, was born 1688, and settled, with wife MARIA CATHARINA , and sons, in Heidelberg Township, then Lancaster County, Pa., near Stouchburg, in the present county of Berks, where he died ca. October 27, 1749, and is buried in the old Tulpehocken Lutheran Cemetery near Stouchsburg. The eldest son, GEORGE CHRISTOPHER HERROLD, JR., moved to the present Bethel Tp., Berks County, shortly after 1750, where he resided until 1770-1771, when he removed to Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, where he died in 1787. JOHN GEORGE HERROLD moved to what is now Snyder County, where he was assessed as a resident of Penn Township as early as 1771; he died in Union Township, Snyder County, in 1803.
